The phoenix rises from the fires of divorce

When parents divorce, disputes over child custody can get heated. Fortunately, trained, experienced Connecticut family law attorneys can help lower the flames of anger and get everyone through the legal process as they simultaneously begin to work through the emotions of a permanent split in their family.

We recently read an essay from a divorced mom, discussing the things she liked best about having gone through a divorce she characterized as "tough, ugly, acrimonious..." The important things are that she survived and her daughters survived, with child custody issues resolved. The writer now believes she is thriving in post-divorce life.

The writer refers to herself in her Huffington Post piece as a phoenix; the mythical bird that rises reborn from fire. Here are some post-divorce things that make her fly:

  • Bonding with her daughters: divorce was tough on the pair of girls, but the three of them wound up in relationships closer than ever. "In the long run," the mom writes, "the divorce is far better for them and they know it."
  • Keep going: the divorced mom quoted Winston Churchill, who said, "If you're going through hell, keep going." That's what she did until she and her ex were able to finalize their divorce and bring their unhappy marriage to an end.
  • Tacky ornaments: they will never hang on her Christmas tree again, she vowed. His leather couch? Gone. His clothes? Gone.
  • Compromises: they're also gone, she says. No more arguing over the dogs, vacation days, the kids, food and everything else.

Of course, as most divorced parents know, it's not a great idea to end all compromising with the ex. You will undoubtedly still be a part of each other's lives and share decision-making responsibilities regarding your child's education, religion, friends and much more.

An experienced Connecticut family law attorney helps you work out the details of divorce in negotiations so that you find favorable resolutions to disputes over children, property division, alimony and other issues.
