Property division conflict may involve family home during divorce

Going through divorce in Connecticut can be financially complicated, especially when it involves a marital home. In some cases involving property division, both parties prefer not to hold onto the house because they do not want to assume the costs of keeping it up on their own. Accordingly, the parties can simply sell the home. A few tips may help them to market and sell the home effectively.

It is expedient to hire a real estate agent to handle the sale of the family home during a divorce, as this may lessen potential stress and arguments. The parties may choose to hire a previous real estate agent with whom they were both satisfied. If they cannot agree on an agent, another idea is for each could choose a relative or friend and then have both of these parties choose an agent for the couple.

Once an agent is chosen and he or she recommends an asking price for the home, the two homeowners would be wise to listen to his or her advice. Allowing the agent to establish the asking price may help to alleviate a potential conflict. However, if the agent's recommendation appears unreasonable, it may be necessary to hire a new agent or do independent research to arrive at a more appropriate figure.

When people go through divorce in Connecticut, making decisions regarding property division and asset distribution is often a challenge. This is especially true if the parties cannot find common ground. An applied understanding of the law may help them to achieve their individual goals during the divorce while still considering the other party's wishes and needs.
