Tackling property division in divorce quickly may be wise

Contested divorces in Connecticut can be trying both emotionally and financially. One reason a couple may choose to stay in a toxic marriage is because they feel they do not have enough money to get divorced, especially when they cannot agree on matters such as property division. However, there are a couple of major situations where a couple simply cannot afford not to get a divorce.

First, it is wise to get divorced if no chance of reconciliation exists. It may be worthwhile for a couple to complete therapy and try to make their marriage work. However, sometimes it simply will not work. In this situation, it is wise to move forward with the divorce process so that one can start to live life on one's own terms.

Second, getting divorced sooner is wise for people who are dealing with physical health issues or depression as a result of the their toxic marriages. Sometimes people are tempted to delay getting divorced with the hope that their marriages will turn around. However, their bodies may not be able to withstand the stresses of their unfulfilling marriages for another six months or another year.

The divorce process can seem intimidating in Connecticut, especially for those who have high-value assets and cannot find common ground concerning asset and property division. Proper legal guidance may help each divorcing individual to fight for his or her best interest while keeping in mind the other party's wishes. If the couple cannot work out their issues through divorce negotiation or mediation, a judge will have to make important decisions on these matters for them.
