Trusts & Estates Attorney Addresses American Bar Association

WESTPORT, Conn. – Attorney Shelby L. Wilson, of the Westport office of the law firm of Berchem Moses PC, served as a panelist on a presentation entitled “Estate Planning Gone Awry” at the 2012 Mid-Year Meeting of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section.

Ms. Wilson, who is a lifelong resident of Orange, attended the ABA meeting in San Diego, California, on February 17. The panel members discussed several common strategies used by clients in family estate and tax planning designed to minimize state and federal taxes. The panel also presented recommendations on preventing unanticipated and negative non-tax consequences for the individuals and beneficiaries involved.

Currently, Ms. Wilson serves as vice-chair of the Closely Held Businesses Committee of the ABA Tax Section. She also sits on the Executive Committee of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Trusts & Estates Committee of the New Haven County Bar Association.

Ms. Wilson is a frequent lecturer at both the national and local levels on tax, estate planning and succession issues relevant to individuals, families, tax-exempt organizations and family businesses.
