CHRO Grants Extensions on Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Requirements Until January 1, 2021

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CHRO has issued an extension of the deadline for employers to provide Sexual Harassment Prevention Training until January 1, 2021. The extension comes just two weeks before the original deadline of October 1, 2020. Unlike the CHRO’s previous extension, which was limited to employees hired after October 1, 2019 and required a showing of good cause, this is a blanket extension applicable to all employers and does not require a specific a request to the CHRO.

This news should give comfort to employers who have had to navigate a multitude of challenges caused by the current public health crisis and were struggling to schedule training before the deadline. This latest extension should give employers ample time to adequately prepare and schedule training sessions to ensure that they are in compliance with sexual harassment prevention training requirements of Connecticut’s Times Up Act. For more detail on the statutory requirements, see our previous blog post here.
