Title IX Changes Are Here – Your Roadmap for the New Requirements

By: Rebecca Goldberg

All public and private elementary and secondary schools, school districts, colleges, and universities receiving federal funds must take note of major changes to Title IX regulations.  The U.S. Department of Education recently updated these regulations, which address how educational institutions handle complaints of sex discrimination and sexual harassment.  The new regulations go into effect August 1, 2024.

The existing regulations set out a detailed “grievance procedure” for handling complaints of sexual harassment.  The new regulations broaden the scope of conduct that triggers the grievance procedure; change the complaint-handling process; and expressly address protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy and related issues.

The new regulations are extensive and will require implementation in a few short months, unless legal action delays implementation.  We are working to create policies/regulations, template documents, and training materials for educational clients so you will be ready on August 1st.  Please contact us to receive these materials when they are available and to arrange for training of your staff.
